We Moved!

Updated: Oct 12, 2018

We took the plunge and left the city for country life. Come check out our new (to us) home.

Our home!

The house is a century home built in 1860 and sits on 3 acres of land. It has great bones and some characteristics that were likely original to the space.

The big front porch is so welcoming and it was a major selling feature in our decision making. I immediately imagined a porch swing along side a couple of rocking chairs while drinking a cup of tea first thing in the morning. These items were a few of the first purchases we made after we took ownership!

The house is a lot bigger than what we had intended to purchase, but the land that came with it and the proximity to the town/major highway sold us. Since I am going back to my job in the city after my maternity leave, it was important that my commute would be straightforward since it is a long drive.

We have been exploring the property and have made a few exciting discoveries! There are raspberry and black raspberry bushes all over, along with several chestnut trees and black walnut trees. There are also tons of wild grape vines crawling along our fence and several climbing trumpet vines, with one that goes up the side of the barn in the most beautiful way. The previous owners planted several hydrangea bushes, maple trees and hostas so there are lots of existing plants to enjoy.

Inside our house there are ample rooms with soaring ceilings on the main floor and detailed trim work that we think is original to the home. The living room has an arched doorway that adds so much character and a ceiling medallion that is stunning. Once we give the whole space a fresh coat of paint, these details will really pop! The floors are hardwood and though the rooms are clearly divided, it feels almost like an open concept space since the doorways are so large.

Heading upstairs, the stairway has a massive window that lets in lots of light and there are four bedrooms and a full bathroom. Almost all of the rooms in the house are painted with different shades of brown so lightening up the walls will make everything feel bright and airy.

Our vision is to modernize the interior and make it feel welcoming, light and airy so there is lots of work to be done.
