Life Lately

Do you ever have a lot of random thoughts and things you want to talk about? I sure do! So I'm going to start a series called 'Life Lately' just for the purpose of going over all the things.


Where to begin? Maybe with a little update on my celery juice, no wheat or dairy food journey. I'm still going strong! I wasn't sure I'd last more than a few days but so far I've been pretty good about sticking to it. I had little expectations of how the celery juice would affect me but I've been pleasantly surprised that I have felt less bloated and have more energy. As for the no wheat or dairy part of my journey - it's been easier than I anticipated, maybe because I was just ready to do it. But I miss cheese. And when Terry made a pizza, I wanted a slice something fierce...however, I refrained and blended up some frozen fruit with coconut milk instead. Let me tell you, NOT THE SAME, but still yummy in its own right. I haven't noticed any changes to my skin, particularly with my eczema, but it may take a bit before it clears up. I have also tried gluten-free bread and Bob's Mill Gluten-Free Pancake mix. The taste and texture were comparable to what I'm used to but they felt kinda heavy sitting in my stomach. If they are consumed in moderation I think it would work well as a substitute but otherwise it might be a bit much.



On a different food note, I recently tried out boxes from Good Food, which are affiliated with Marche. It's a weekly subscription box with all the ingredients and recipes for 2 (or more) fresh meals delivered to your doorstep. I've really enjoyed making the meals and trying out something I normally wouldn't think of preparing for my family. So far half of the recipes have been home runs and the other half have been pretty good. I have even recreated 2 of the meals so far since I enjoyed them so much! Want to give it a try? Mindset. Have you heard of the Calm app? It was a New Years download for me and since then, I've consistently been trying to use it. I like the daily meditations and the 'Breathe' functions. I try to do them before I go to sleep. During these dreary months I struggle to stay peppy as the grey days really affect my mood. One of the things I find helpful is putting something positive out in the world. Whether it's sending an encouraging text to a friend or writing a positive note on an Instagram post, the more I do this, the better I feel. Any suggestions to combat the winter blahs?



My order from Floret Flower came in and it makes me very excited for the warmer weather and sunnier days! I made a small investment in the seeds I purchased and am hoping they will do well in our garden.

Hopefully these pretty blooms will entice lots of bees and beneficial bugs to our garden to help pollinate all the veggies we will be growing as well. I am most excited about the poppies! They remind me of my mom and I even bought a few extra packets of seeds as a surprise for her. Amongst the poppy varieties is one I have never seen before called 'Shirley Poppy' in amazing grey. I CANNOT WAIT to see these beauties grow!
