3 Pieces of Advice to the New Mama
Updated: Nov 8, 2018
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! You are about to embark on a crazy life journey and I could not be more excited for you.
As a new Mama you will inevitably receive a lot of well meaning but unsolicited advice. Some of it will be really helpful and others may not apply to you. Trust your instincts and know that at the end of the day, how you raise your child is your choice. Do so with love and with his or her best interest at heart and you will never have to apologize for it.
I'm jumping on the advice bandwagon with 3 things that have worked well for me. Take it all with a grain of salt, but I hope you find it helpful.
1. Keep a little basket filled with diapers, wipes, cream and an extra onesie in your main living space so you don’t have to run up to the nursery every time baby needs a diaper change. It happens often and you will likely want these items within close reach.
2. Take time to shower and get dressed to help keep your sanity. Put baby in a seat in the bathroom with you if you want to keep him/her in your sight. It is worth it.
3. Milk every snuggle you can, (and EVERYONE will tell you this, but it is absolutely true), he/she will grow so quickly and time will FLY. Enjoy your little one at every stage. There will always be laundry and dishes to do, but he/she will not always want to sleep on your chest. Take the time to relax with your baby; it is good for the both of you. Birthing a child is hard work and tough on your body. Sit. Snuggle. Recuperate and heal.
Raising a child is one of the most difficult jobs you will ever have. It will test you in ways you never imagined and you are going to face some long, hard nights. Know that this too shall pass and it is SO worth it. You’ve got this.
Welcome to parenthood.
